Licensing & Artwork Rights
Who owns what, in both directions: the artwork you upload stays yours, our own prints stay ours, and illustrators we work with are paid per mat sold.
You keep every right
Uploading a file grants us one narrow licence: to reproduce it in order to manufacture your mat and to show you a proof. We do not add it to the catalogue, use it in marketing, or show it to anyone outside the workshop unless you write to say we may.
Ours, for personal use
Catalogue designs, the Desk Mat Co. name and the site itself are our intellectual property. Buying a mat buys you the object, not the right to reproduce the print on other goods or resell it as a design file.
What you confirm when you upload
Working with illustrators
Every illustrated design in the catalogue is licensed from a named artist on a per-unit royalty — not a one-off buyout. Artists keep the copyright, approve the print proof, and can end the licence with 60 days’ notice. If you would like your work on a mat, send a portfolio to studio@deskmat.co.
